この選手を知る — 証言者を追った黄色いジャージ

1996年、精巣がんが肺や脳にまで広がっていると分かった。手術と化学療法を経て復帰し、ツールを勝ち続けた。2004年のツール第18ステージでは、総合首位の黄色いジャージのまま集団を飛び出し、逃げようとするフィリッポ・シメオーニを追った。シメオーニは自分のドーピングを認め、アームストロングの助言役だった医師フェラーリに不利な証言をしていた。アームストロングは、シメオーニが集団に戻らなければ自分も逃げに残り、逃げ切らせないと迫った。そのあと口にチャックをする仕草をした。2012年、米国反ドーピング機関が本人とチームのドーピングを認定し、7度のツール優勝はすべて取り消された。
